UAE citizens holding ordinary passports will soon be able to stay in Japan for up to 90 days without a visa, starting from July 1, 2025—a significant increase from the current 30-day limit. This policy update, announced by the UAE Embassy in Tokyo and Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is designed to further strengthen bilateral relations, facilitate tourism, and promote business and cultural exchanges between the two nations.
To qualify for this extended visa-free stay, UAE nationals must possess valid ordinary passports that are ICAO-compliant IC passports, and their visit must be for short-term purposes such as sightseeing, business, or visiting relatives and friends. The extension mirrors a similar measure introduced by the UAE in August 2024, allowing Japanese nationals to stay in the UAE for up to 90 days without a visa, highlighting the reciprocal nature of these agreements.
Since November 2022, UAE citizens have enjoyed visa-free entry to Japan for up to 30 days, but the new regulation, effective from July 2025, marks a milestone in the growing partnership between the two countries and is expected to boost travel and economic cooperation even further. The UAE passport continues to rank among the world’s most powerful, granting its holders visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to over 180 countries, and this development further reinforces its global standing.
Travelers are advised to ensure their passports meet the ICAO standards and to check the latest entry requirements before planning their trips.
