Qatar Airways, recently named the World’s Best Airline 2025 for a record ninth time by Skytrax, is setting new benchmarks in passenger experience with the launch of its next-generation in-flight entertainment system. This innovative system, powered by Panasonic Avionics’ new Converix platform, is being introduced on the airline’s Boeing 777-9 fleet during the 55th International Paris Air Show, advancing Qatar Airways’ vision for a digitally-enabled, personalized, and intelligent onboard journey.
The Boeing 777-9, the largest variant in Boeing’s 777X family, is a state-of-the-art aircraft featuring folding wingtips to fit existing airport gates, a wider cabin, larger windows, and improved lighting, all designed to enhance passenger comfort. It seats up to 426 passengers in a typical two-class configuration and boasts a range of approximately 7,285 nautical miles (13,500 km). Powered by two General Electric GE9X-105B1A engines, the 777-9 combines fuel efficiency with advanced technology, making it a flagship for modern long-haul travel.
Qatar Airways has recently expanded its Boeing 777-9 order by 20 additional aircraft, underscoring its commitment to growing and modernizing its fleet with this ultra-modern, fuel-efficient jet. The airline already operates a substantial fleet, including Boeing 777 models with Qsuite business class seating, and continues to enhance its service offerings through such investments.
The new in-flight entertainment system leverages cutting-edge AI technology to offer passengers a seamless, smart connected platform that integrates control of key onboard features. It provides a hyper-personalized experience with dynamic content tailored to individual preferences, seat-level smart controls, and a fully connected digital environment.
This modular, digital-first approach enables standardized content management and AI capabilities across all aircraft types, paving the way for future scalability and innovation throughout Qatar Airways’ fleet.
Ms. Xia Cai, Senior Vice President of Product Development at Qatar Airways, stated: “Our new platform is more than just a technological upgrade – it is a game changer that will completely redefine entertainment in the sky. With every new milestone, we continue to shape the future of travel and move forward at 35,000 feet and beyond”.
This launch complements Qatar Airways’ recent accolades, including World’s Best Business Class and Best Airline in the Middle East, reflecting its ongoing leadership and innovation in the aviation industry. Operating from its Doha hub, Hamad International Airport, which has been named the Best Airport in the Middle East for 11 consecutive years, Qatar Airways continues to deliver excellence in passenger experience and environmental responsibility.
With the introduction of the Boeing 777-9 equipped with this advanced entertainment system, Qatar Airways is poised to redefine the future of air travel, offering passengers a smarter, more connected, and deeply personalized flying experience that aligns with its status as a global aviation leader.
