Riyadh Air, Saudi Arabia’s new national airline, and Air France-KLM have signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance global air travel connectivity, focusing on routes between Riyadh, Paris, Amsterdam, and other major international destinations.
The agreement was signed during the 2025 IATA Annual General Meeting in New Delhi and aims to foster broad cooperation including codeshare agreements, network expansion, and improved passenger experience.
This partnership leverages Riyadh Air’s strategic hub at King Khalid International Airport (RUH) alongside Air France-KLM’s major European hubs at Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG) and Amsterdam Schiphol (AMS).
It intends to increase flight options between Saudi Arabia and Western Europe, with future plans to extend services to North and South America, Asia, and the Middle East. Recent route launches such as Air France’s Paris–Riyadh and KLM’s Amsterdam–Riyadh flights highlight the growing demand and mutual commitment.
Beyond expanding route networks, the collaboration focuses on enhancing the passenger experience through reciprocal loyalty program integration, enabling customers to earn and redeem points across both airlines. Coordinated services will include lounge access, customer support, and streamlined transfer processes to create a seamless travel journey.
The MoU also covers operational and strategic areas such as Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO), sustainability initiatives, cargo operations, and digital innovation.
These efforts aim to improve efficiency, reduce environmental impact, and support Riyadh Air’s vision of becoming a technologically advanced and environmentally responsible airline. This aligns with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 goals to develop Riyadh as a global aviation hub and promote economic diversification.
Tony Douglas, CEO of Riyadh Air, emphasized the transformative potential of this partnership in accelerating international expansion and enhancing guest experience through innovation.
Benjamin Smith, CEO of Air France-KLM Group, described the agreement as a timely opportunity to deepen the group’s presence in Saudi Arabia and the Gulf region, complementing existing operations by Air France, KLM, and Transavia.
Subject to regulatory approvals, this strategic alliance is set to improve connectivity, simplify booking and transfers, and offer passengers greater travel options. As Riyadh Air prepares for its commercial launch, this cooperation marks a significant step toward establishing the airline as a key player in the global aviation industry.
