IndiGo is set to expand its global reach by launching direct flights to 10 new international destinations in the current financial year, including major European cities such as London, Athens, Amsterdam, and Manchester.
This expansion marks the airline’s entry into long-haul operations, with flights from Mumbai to Manchester and Amsterdam starting in July 2025, operated using leased Boeing 787-9 aircraft.
Other new international routes include Copenhagen (Denmark), Siem Reap (Cambodia), and four cities in Central Asia, broadening IndiGo’s presence across Europe, Southeast Asia, and Central Asia.
CEO Pieter Elbers highlighted the growing potential of Indian aviation, driven by rising demand and infrastructure expansion, and emphasized the opportunity to position India as a key global aviation hub. Currently, Indian carriers handle 45% of the country’s international air traffic, with the remainder served by foreign airlines, indicating significant room for growth.
IndiGo operates over 2,300 daily flights with a fleet exceeding 430 aircraft, connecting more than 90 domestic and 40 international destinations. The airline also leads in gender diversity among Indian carriers, with women comprising about 15% of its pilot workforce.
Further enhancing its global profile, IndiGo will host the 81st Annual General Meeting of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) in New Delhi this June, the first time India has hosted the event in 42 years.
The airline’s expansion is supported by plans to induct new aircraft types, including the Airbus A321XLR, enabling more medium- to long-haul routes. IndiGo’s strategic growth aims to capitalize on increasing international travel demand and India’s evolving aviation infrastructure, reinforcing its position as a major player in global aviation
