Whether you're arriving, departing, or transferring through Hamad International Airport, understanding the security and customs procedures can greatly enhance the safety and efficiency of your travel experience.
Arrivals
For passengers arriving at Hamad International Airport, there are several key points to keep in mind:
Security Screening
Upon arrival, your hand luggage will undergo a security check before you can access the baggage claim area. It's crucial to be aware that certain prohibited items will be confiscated, and you will not have the opportunity to reclaim them. These items include but are not limited to:
- Weapons, firearms, and ammunition
- Alcoholic beverages
- Pork products
- Narcotic drugs
Customs Process
Once you have collected your checked baggage, you will proceed through Customs. You will encounter two channels:
Green Channel: Use this if you have "Nothing to declare."
Red Channel: Choose this if you have "Something to declare," which may include:
- Alcoholic beverages (not permitted for import)
- Exceeding allowed limits for foreign currency, jewelry, and precious stones
- Transporting prohibited or restricted weapons and firearms
- Possession of illicit materials
- Carrying more than 400 cigarettes
- Personal items and gifts valued over QAR 3,000 (USD 825)
If you're unsure which channel to take, it's advisable to ask for assistance. Customs officers may request information regarding any currency, jewelry, or precious stones in your possession. Failing to provide accurate or complete information can lead to serious consequences, including confiscation of items.
Taxes and Duties
Be prepared to pay any applicable taxes or duties on items brought into Qatar. For specifics, consult the relevant lists available at the airport.
Priority Processing
Passengers utilizing Al Maha services, those requiring special assistance, and unaccompanied minors receive priority processing at Hamad International Airport.
Lost & Found
If you misplace items during the security check, they will be held in the Lost & Found office. Inquire at the nearest information desk for help in retrieving your belongings.

Security Check
During the security screening, your hand baggage will be examined and you will pass through a metal detector. To streamline this process, please:

- Place small items, such as phones and wallets, into your hand baggage before screening.
- Put metallic items (like belts and shoes) into the security tray before passing through the metal detector.
Important Notes:
- The metal detectors are safe for passengers with cardiac pacemakers.
- Expectant mothers may be exempt from walking through metal detectors, provided they present a medical certificate, and will undergo a physical check by a female officer if necessary.
